A week ago I had the opportunity to head East to New York to attend my very first New York Fashion Week. I only had the trip planned for about a month, so I did everything in my power to ensure I had places to go and people to see.
Now I didn't get as much done as I had hoped, but I chose quality over quantity for this trip.
With that, I reached out to Sheila (one of my favorite contacts in New York) and she let me in on some pretty amazing stuff!
She got me in to see some behind-the-scenes action at the DKNY Men F/W15 presentation, as well as backstage at the Wes Gordon fashion show.
While there I met Syd Hayes, the UK Ambassador for L'Oréal Paris who took the creative lead on all things hair & hairstyling for both events.
For the DKNY Menswear presentation, Syd shared that his vision was to make each model a more enhanced version of himself without sacrificing his individuality. In doing so Syd used a series of products from the L'Oréal Professionnel Homme collection, as well as a L'Oréal Tecni.Art 'Volume Envy Extra' mousse to create visible texture and a strong hold. As you can see above, the hairstyles were effortless in appearance, yet required an attention to detail that only an expert could manage.
When it came time for the Wes Gordon fashion show, Syd's approach to styling was similar to that of the DKNY Men presentation. For Wes Gordon's FW15 show at Milk Studios, Syd derived his inspirations from the laidback culture & lifestyle of women in the early 90's.
Both the men's and women's styles were representations of a street chic culture that is currently experiencing a revival.
Similar to the designers for which he styles, Syd Hayes is setting a standard and quality in his work & styling. The standards & innovations, however, would be impossible without his many years of experience and newfound creativity in using the L'Oréal Professionnel products.
Though Syd is often busy and high in demand for his clear & mastered skill, it was great speaking with him for the time that I did. Not only was he full of information, but there were numerous examples to back it all up. Needless enough to say, it was a great experience and memory made.
What do you think of the hairstyles chosen for each model? Feel free to share in the comments below!
Many thanks to Sheila M., Syd Hayes, and the Rogers & Cowan team for making this all possible!
