NEVER OVERLOOK THE POWER OF PATTERN.
Contrary to popular belief, gingham isn't just a pattern to wear during the summer. Having made its first appearance in fashion as early as the 17th century, that just gives us even more of a reason to use it. The fact that this style has lasted so long speaks wonders to its versatility and appearance as a design. One of the greatest things about gingham is how well it goes with a simple pair of jeans. Here in San Francisco, jeans and a quality shirt can go a long way for all the activity being done in this city; most men will tell you the same.
Since San Francisco weather permits a sort of spring & summer dress year-round, it is a good idea to have a gingham piece in your closet just in case. A lot of stores like H&M, Zara, and Banana Republic dish out the look around this time, making it easier to get a hold of. Now, if you don't already own a piece, I would advise buying a style whose colors are simple, such as black/white or navy/white (some of the most classic color combinations). Another thing to have in mind is how you want to wear it. Will it be a hint of pattern (i.e. tie or pocket square), or will it be a statement piece (shirt or shorts)? Either way, it adds a great pop of style to any outfit if done correctly. Since the typical thing in San Francisco is to make a statement, this is a sure fire way to do it. Check back tomorrow for a full post to see how I wore it.
