The Best Week from Hell

attachment-5485e129e4b067756c6b992a

Catching up this past week has been hell, and I loved it.

Keeping it brief today, as I've got a ton of things to work on, but I wanted to touch base with you all and let you know where I stand. I've been to hell and back this past week with all the catching up and everything else I've been doing. Ahh! It's great, though! I've been busy and couldn't ask for more.

Between school, events, my love life, & maintaining a healthy routine, I've been swamped. Now, I love what I do and who I get to do it with, but sometimes I take on a little too much! I've been better about it, but I have my moments. Since I want to be everywhere and see everyone, it's easy to forget that I need time for myself and for all of you.

Last week I came home from my visit with my family, as I mentioned in my previous post from last Tuesday. The weather in San Francisco and the Bay Area was PERFECT. Even though it rained a majority of the week, I enjoyed every bit of it. The gloominess outside was reason enough for me to cuddle up with my dogs and take care of business. Once Wednesday came around, I needed to have as much done as possible.

Wednesday finally came and I headed into San Francisco for a great event at the Eddie Bauer Flagship that just opened in Union Square. I attended with one of my greatest friends, Emma, and we took sips and bites with some other fashion enthusiasts. It was a really nice time, and I even bumped into the CEO of Eddie Bauer who really kind & courteous.

After Thursday & Friday flew by, I had an amazing date night with my boyfriend Jordan on Saturday. He and I went to watch Kinky Boots in San Francisco. Every time we go out, it's a reminder of why we fell in love with each other. We were out past midnight, talked until 2AM, then fell asleep and went about our Sunday together.

Yesterday was also all about work. I'm still trying to make sure I get all caught up, as I decided to also tackle Menswear Mag again. It's something I'm passionate about, so I've decided to try and balance my time and include it. It's received over 1,000 new followers since YESTERDAY! Ahh!

So, I know you all want pictures, that's why I've included a sort of story to follow what I've written. I do apologize for not being as active previously, but rest assured I'm back into it! If you miss me as much as I miss all of you, be sure to check me out on Instagram (@ofmiceandmenswear) & on Twitter (@miceandmenswear).

I hope you've all been well and I can't wait to share more of my life & style with you soon. In the meantime, have a great day :)

Clean, Simple Look for Orange County

attachment-547df69fe4b056f0f10ba5cc

Street style in Orange County definitely giving off some summer vibes.

Well, I FINALLY did it. I made it back home to see my family in Orange County after eight (YES EIGHT!) months! Words can't even express how happy I am right now as I write this post. It was such a hardship for me to have to get by on phone calls and group texts with my mom, dad, sisters, and the rest of the pack. So when I got back to Cypress, CA, the town my family calls home, it was nothing but love and laughs all around.

Now when I was preparing for the trip, I had absolutely no idea what to bring. Considering we were prepping for rain here in San Francisco and the Bay Area, I was sort of hopeful to bring shorts and t-shirts for the usual day-to-day sun in Orange County. I was so wrong. I found out it was going to likely to be raining down in SoCal, too. Not okay. I go home to get AWAY from the rain, not to follow it. Anyway, what I decided to do (as any normal person would) was pack two full suitcases for myself and my boyfriend with a fair 90% of the space for my clothes and the remaining 10% for his. By packing my 'essentials' in bulk, I was prepared for any weather... Even snow.

When the first few days rolled out, my style was fairly casual. As a matter of fact, the combination you see above was my go-to look for the stay. Swap out my charcoal denim for my standard blue Levi's and BOOM, I get away with the same outfit twice. Probably shouldn't share that with you all, but this is where I can be honest about these things. You're my friends. With the jeans, I wore a really easy-to-wear UNIQLO Henley in white to give myself something a little more interesting than the standard white t-shirt. Threw on an equally casual chambray long-sleeve by Ralph Lauren and I was good to go. The hat and sunglasses weren't necessary, but it made me feel better about my lack of sleep and messy hair.

Being back in Orange County really brought back some great feelings. I hung out with friends and family that I hadn't seen in almost 5 years. It was amazing. I'm still thinking back to all the awesomeness that is my life down south. Luckily I have an amazing boyfriend and two dogs to help me with the homesickness. Oh, and clothes. Those distract me, but in the 'I'm online shopping so I can't focus on anything else' sort of way. Okay really though, in all seriousness, I'm so thankful for the holidays and for the opportunity I had to feel at home again. I hope you all had an equal experience this past weekend. Until next time :)

Casual Fall Look in Oversized VINCE Coat

attachment-54765eede4b0b4d58aaf9f93

Sporting my newest VINCE coat for a day of casual, relaxed, & luxury style.

Anybody saying you can't be comfortable and look good doing it is a liar. There have been so many improvements in the comfort-to-casual department, I don't even know what to do with myself. Sweatpants are now a thing in street style and athletic shoes have become fashion statements. It's sort of an interesting shift considering so many of the people heading in that direction were so against baggy pants and oversized shirts. Nonetheless, I'm definitely embracing this new trend.

Now, I know I'm not wearing sweats in the photos above, but I am sporting some casual-luxury style. Since I recently purchased this awesome Vince coat to protect myself from San Francisco & Bay Area weather, I've been exploring some fun ways to wear it. I'm definitely more about taking basics and styling them to look, well, not-so-basic. What does that even mean, right? Well, it's essentially combining your favorite t-shirt, a pair of standard denim (I chose black skinnies) and a cool & comfortable pair of shoes. The shoes HAVE to be comfortable or is defeats the purpose of lounging in style. Sure we all make sacrifices in the name of style, but your body needs some time to rest, too.

When you've finally come up with a combination that you're comfortable with, it's all about the third piece. A third piece is essentially a blazer, jacket, coat, sweater, etc. that you throw over an outfit to give it a little something extra. In my case, I've thrown on my colorblock hooded Vince coat. The shawl collar on it really is it's best feature, as it adds a lot of subtle color and detail to my casual-cool combination. It's really all about the subtle detail with these sorts of outfits. More color / print / pattern is great, but I try and limit those additions to shoes & coats. That's just a preference, though.

You're really free to do whatever you'd like with your style. I typically get a little more casual when it's gloomier weather. San Francisco and Bay Area mornings really great for that, so I get to dress like this fairly often, but not today. It's around 86 in Orange County right now, and let me tell you, it's friggin' hot. Guess summer came a little early this year, ehh? With that, I'm going to head out and enjoy what sun I can grab before heading back to the Bay Area. It'll do me some good. I urge you all to do the same! :) Have a great day - Anthony

Trend Tuesday: The Long Coat

attachment-546cb9d6e4b03b91fa856603

Long Trench Coats become a must for refined style

Ok it's Wednesday, so technically I was to have this up yesterday, but it's my blog & my rules and I'm not giving you anything less than perfect. Anyway, it took some time to get these photos just right, as I'm dabbling in Photoshop and spending more time on it than I should. That's fine, though! It'll just make your experience on my site that much more enjoyable :)

So, in today's #TrendTuesday (but it's actually Wednesday) post, I want to touch base on the extremely awesome surge of long coats I've seen. By long coats, I don't mean Matrix-inspired and overwhelming. The coats I'm talking about are fitted, tapered, have bold design, and land right above your knees. They're great! Why? Because you can take any simple look, throw on an extremely well-constructed coat, and you're good to go.

In the photos above, I've featured one of my favorite coats from Zara (purchased a little under a year ago) and threw it over a simple distressed denim, white tee, and sleek shoes combo. I like high contrast, so I'll almost always pair white under a darker coat and vice versa. To add a little bit more oomph, I added on the extremely vibrant flannel scarf. The scarf actually complements the subtle print on the coat way more than I expected, even adding a little bit of boldness to the monochrome look.

When thinking of ways to wear your coats, look for lengths that work with your body. Don't overwhelm yourself with a coat that is too lengthy, as it'll work against you and actually make you seem shorted. As for your taller men & women, you generally want pea coats to hit you right at (or slightly below) your waistline. With trenches, the 3 to 4 inches above the knee seems to be a good rule for length.

Remember, my looks only serve as one way to wear the trend, but realistically there are so many more things you can do with it. Mens & womens fashion is limitless, so take some time to really delve into the pool of style options you have. Then, when you've found an awesome look, come back, share it, and I'll share it for others to see. So, how will you wear the it?

Need a Reason 2(X)IST? [Part 2]

attachment-545c3133e4b0efbe94260aa5

As some of you may or may not have seen, I am currently partnered up with the lifestyle brand 2(X)IST for a mini style series. The mini style series is a new facet to my page, just as much as these sweatpants are... OK, they're one week old. Sue me. Anyway, as part of the fun partnering, I've chosen to show you some great ways to wear the 2(X)IST Terry Sweatpant. Now, you're probably saying to yourself, 'Wtf, Anthony - Sweatpants aren't special, I own like a million pairs.'
Well, if that's you, then sit down. Why? Because you've never worn these before, and if you have worn these before, please confirm my love for these sweats in the comments below.

Now, if you really are curious as to why I love these so much, I just want to point out the softness in the cotton & careful detail in the fit to make them more street-appropriate. Let's all keep in mind that even the most unconventional of styles can be the most functional. Considering how cold it gets here in the Bay Area and San Francisco, sometimes a little warmth is good. Since I am in San Jose currently, I needn't worry TOO much about the fall chills, so I can get away with wearing this really sleek chambray shirt from UNIQLO. I've also paired the sweats with the same VINCE boots you found in my previous post, but who's keeping track, right? ... RIGHT?! I kid :)

Keeping today's post very short, I'd love to get some feedback on any and all aspect of this outfit. Again PLEASE EXCUSE GRAIN. Sometimes the photos get a little lost in translation (ya'll bloggers feel meh?). Alright, have a good one, everyone :) Until next time.

Holiday Gift Guide: The Victorinox Chrono Classic 1/100th

attachment-546abf55e4b020f024f65b52

Struggling to find the perfect gift? Well, look no further.

Let's face it, one of the hardest parts of the holiday season is figuring out what to get your loved ones. You constantly battle yourself over whether or not somebody already has one, needs one, will return it, if something will fit, the list goes on. So, what's an easy fix? Well, a watch of course. Why a watch? Because they're practical, collectible, and timeless. Most men (and women) have extreme weaknesses for a nice watch, and I'm no different. That's why this holiday season I'm presenting you with one of my top picks from the watch department.

Recently I presented you with the awesome Victorinox I.N.O.X, a menswear staple that was both dapper and durable. Now, in a second installment of Victorinox goodness, I share the Victorinox Chrono Classic 1/100th. As part of the Swiss Army company, the Chrono Classic proves itself to be a modern, innovative, and ingenious product as the Swiss Army Knife has proven itself to be. A modern day must, the Chrono Classic does well in proving its use, as well as its appeal through the rich colors in leather straps & stainless steel casing. I've added a few of my favorite styles in the images below.

In addition to the quality style and presentation of the watch, you shouldn't overlook the most important aspects of a quality timepiece - the ability to tell time. Though there are many facets to the Chrono Classic (as you would expect from any Swiss Army product), it provides time and it does it well. The Chrono Classic keeps true to its name, able to tell you the hour down to the smallest hundredth of a second; you may also switch between modes with the easy click of the bezel. But don't let me spoil all the fun for you, try one out for yourselves.

To get a closer look at the modernized timepiece, visit the Victorinox Chrono Classic website directly and read more on what makes it so great. You'll find a modern & easy-to-navigate site directly aligned with what the watch itself represents. Go get one while you can - the clock is ticking.

** I have teamed up with the brand to create this post. It is sponsored, but all thoughts, words, and opinions are my own.

Black Friday: Edition 1

attachment-5466a3c8e4b0433015db6487

Black Friday has a whole new meaning in the world of style blogging.

If you ask any fashion blogger what his or her favorite colors are, almost 100% of the time, they will answer will include black. Why? Because black is the universal color of trendiness, style, and timeless fashion. Now, if you ask me what my favorite colors are, I'll answer black, black, aaaand black. Since buying and owning so much black is important in my fashion-focused life, I have decided to make every day Black Friday. I know, how convenient considering I'll be sporting an all-black getup after chowing down on my favorite holiday.

Black Friday doesn't only have to be about black clothing, but I also want to make it about killer deals! Since most brands, labels, and stores are always dishing out some awesome sales, I think it would be a disservice to all my friends & followers if I don't tell you what I know! After all, insider secrets are allowed in the world of shopping. So, starting on this day, November 14th, 2014, I hereby announce #BlackFriday as a weekly regular on this blog. Can't wait to share with you all! BUT, since my boyfriend got home a bit late, I'm feeding you some oldies but goodies in the world of black clothing & my blogging. Happy Friday!

Throwback Thursday: St John Knits & Louboutins

attachment-54653a80e4b07f2a5a1a8786

Featuring a throwback to my favorite St. John knit tunic & cement grey Brixton fedora.

Wearing a Brixton fedora w/ St. John knit tunic.

First off, please forgive the grain in some of these photos, as they don't always translate in the quality that I would like. Anyway, moving past the quality of the photo and into what's in it. Today I'm doing a #throwback in full Thursday tradition. In what I hope to be a new blog series (assuming I have enough clothing to be consistent!) I will be featuring some of my favorite oldies but goodies. That's right! RE-WEARING CLOTHES. God forbid the fashion bloggers of the world wear something TWICE.

Okay all jokes aside, when I love something, I don't just love it for now, I love it forever. A part of my soul attaches to that piece of clothing and saves a little part of my heart with it until eternity. Sounds silly, right? Well it's not. Most of you have favorite shoes, t-shirts, jeans, and the list goes. My favorites list just a tad more expansive than most. Why? Because if I don't love it, I don't buy it. So in the first ever #ThrowbackThursday I'm featuring two of my favorite items in the world. My St. John knit tunic & first ever pair of smoking slipper Louboutins. YES. Louboutins. The little red-soled devils that burn a hole in my wallet faster than you can say 'Prada'.

Moving forward, I wore bought both at what some would cry at spending, but for the price of love & luxury, well there's no value you can put on love. Aside from stomaching the price, I have gotten so much wear out of them, as well as enough love from others to make purchasing them worthwhile. Nothing makes me love my clothes more than knowing others appreciate them, too. That's why I buy them! After all, I dress for the internet, too

All in all, they were extravagant investment pieces that I rarely treat myself to. I'm a poor college student with rent to pay and groceries to buy. Not all my money can go to clothes (though that's more my boyfriend talking than myself). I broke them out for a day just to make them feel loved again. That's right, my Louboutins needed a little love, too! And if you're wanting to find something similar to what I'm wearing, don't look too far! Some of my favorite stores like Zara, H&M, & All-Saints have really similar draping with their tops & sweaters. Great for the guy (or girl) looking to try something new!

Feel free to leave any comments or feedback in the space below! I'd love to hear from you.
